Josh Silverman is a second year MS Chemistry student and a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Nuclear Research Fellow. He will be a contestant on the Jeopardy show, which will air this Thursday, October 15. He is currently working on investigating the structure, chemistry, and complexation properties of the rhodizonate ligand family. This research has the purpose of understanding applications of these ligands and analogs in forensic analysis (such as the lead-rhodizonate test) and in radionuclide complexation. He plans to present his research at the upcoming National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego, CA.
Josh was born in Fairfax, Virginia, but was raised in Miami. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida and a bachelor’s in chemistry from FIU. By day he is a master’s student in Dr. Kavallieratos’s lab, but by night he is a stand-up comedian. He started doing comedy in 2004 while living in Gainesville and has continued to do so since moving back to Miami in 2007. He hopes to work in forensics upon graduation, assuming his comedy career doesn’t take off first!
