First developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, the Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT®) challenges students to communicate the significance of their research projects to a panel of judges and a live audience in just three minutes.
Ten students from seven departments competed in the first CASE Three Minute Thesis competition on February 15. Judged by graduate program directors from eight units, the following four students were chosen to represent CASE in the University Graduate School (UGS) competition held during Graduate Student Appreciation Week:
- Manqi Zhang (Biochemistry)
- Genetic protection from obesity-related diseases
- Carissa Gervasi (Earth and Environment)
- Poor Jack: The plight of a forgotten fish
- Boya Zhang (Earth and Environment)
- Monitoring surface stability of remediated sinkholes in Western Central Florida using PSInSAR technique and Sentinel-1 observations
- Heba Ali (Biological Sciences)
- Energetic costs and physiological trade-offs
The first and second place winners of the UGS competition will go on to represent FIU at the Florida Council of Graduate Schools (FCGS).
