Fiorella Terenzi – astrophysicist, author, recording artist – recently discussed how she’s working to make education interesting and relevant for college students with Tubefilter.
Students who take Terenzi’s “Let’s Get Astrophysical” course explore astronomy through a combination of music, art, fashion, dance and other creative pursuits.
“We are going back to the concept that science by itself is a little bit too dry… too complex… too boring… not that much 2019 any more when we’re talking about young minds,” Terenzi said. “We need to keep the young brains in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We are losing them. What I created I call it Emotional Learning. It’s like learning songs when you were a child and you’re going to remember those songs forever.”
Dr. Terenzi’s lectures provide a unique blend of science and art, knowledge and emotion—i.e. “Emotional Learning.” Based on the 4 “E”s: Entertain, Educate, Enlighten, and Enthrall, students are engaged on these multiple levels. Through teaching she has observed that when learning finds an emotional home, it is remembered forever.
