The Biotechnology Institute recently recognized Dr. Cristobal Carambo, chemistry alum, at the 2019 BIO International Convention for his service to the BioGENEius program.

Hosted by the Biotechnology Institute, the BioGENEius Challenge provides opportunities to high school students to compete and be recognized for exceptional research in biotechnology.

A chemistry teacher at the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Dr. Carambo is driven by his belief that science and technology are central to understanding the world.

In a release published by Business Wire, Larry Mahan – president of the Biotechnology Institute – said, “Dr. Carambo’s personal educational achievements are perhaps exceeded only by his dedication to advancing young women’s interest in STEM careers.”

Carambo’s own experiences in the classroom have reinforced his commitment to engaging underrepresented populations in STEM education.
